The Hain Ceremony was a particularly important ritual of the SELKNAM culture. Its main objective was to be male teenagers’ rite of passage into adulthood. At the ceremony, the initiates painted their bodies with different colors and wore masks to represent the spirits of their culture. Afterwards, initiates had to complete trials of gallantry, courage, and endurance to finally meet success and return to their tribes as men.
